Eurocopter Canada Introduces Newly Certified Optional Equipment

Heli-Expo, Las Vegas, NV,  March 4th, 2013

Additional EC130 and AS350 Options Now Transport Canada Approved

With the recent certification of the 2nd Battery Installation for the EC130 B4 and the Cable Cutter installation for the AS350, Eurocopter Canada Limited (ECL) has increased the range of kitted Supplemental Type Certificates (STC’s) for Eurocopter’s AS350, EC130 and EC120 product range.

With the 2nd battery installation on the EC130, operators can benefit from improved cold weather starting, improved center of gravity (8 seat configuration), reduced ballast and an increased battery capacity. Whereas, cable cutter installation is designed to improved safety of passengers and crew.

“Eurocopter Canada is unique in the fact that we are one of the only helicopter manufacturers worldwide to have a portfolio of kitted STC’s developed in house,” said Guy Joannes, President and CEO Eurocopter Canada. “We are a full service facility, from engineering to manufacturing and development.”

The ECL engineering department is a Design Approval Organization (DAO) certified for the development and flight testing of aircraft options and modifications. The aftermarket components are designed to enhance Eurocopter aircraft and bring additional OEM value; customers around the world have come to rely on Eurocopter Canada optional equipment (STC’s) to support a variety of critical missions. As a center of excellence for the Eurocopter Group, Eurocopter Canada has become a main hub for developing innovative enhancements for Eurocopter’s extensive product range. A total of 430 STC programs have originated at ECL. This includes options for enhanced interiors, increased visibility, cargo capacity and versatility for mission specific roles in the utility, parapublic & medevac sectors as well as, increased safety for operators.

Popular optional equipment for increased cargo capacity include; Cargo Pods (Squirrel Cheeks), Forward Opening Cargo Door and Battery Relocation Kit. Popular STC’s for increased visibility include; High-Visibility Doors, Vertical Reference Window, Cargo Mirrors and Adjustable Glare Shields. STC’s that improve safety for operators and provide preventative measures for maintenance include; Wire Strike Protection System, Airframe Fuel Filter and Settling Protectors Anti-Collision Light.

Additional popular ECL options include the Left Hand Pilot as part of a series of options including a ‘Seven-Place Interior’ configuration. The Rail Steps option introduces an elevated step to each side of the landing gear, providing easier entry and exit for crew and passengers as well as, the Blade Tie-Down Kit that prevents the blades from flapping in windy conditions while the helicopter is on the ground.
