Fugro Airborne Surveys Canada Selects the AS350 B3e as First Rotary Wing Purchase

Fort Erie, ON – The AS350 B3e will assist Fugro with Canadian Survey Missions

International surveying company Fugro Airborne Surveys has selected the AS350 B3e from Eurocopter Canada Limited (ECL) to assist with its geophysical survey missions. In addition to previously leased AS350 aircraft, this will be Fugro’s first helicopter purchase in Canada.

“To date, our preferred model has been the AS350 B3, which we have chartered from our many service providers both in Canada and abroad,” said Hai Pham, Divisional Financial Controller, Fugro Airborne Surveys. “Our impression of the proven ASTAR helicopter family provided a natural transition to the AS350 B3e. We look forward to utilizing this aircraft as an important tool for deploying airborne geophysical technologies.”

The AS350 B3e is an enhanced version of Eurocopter’s single-engine AS350 B3, offering a high-performance helicopter capable of carrying out the most demanding missions in extreme weather and geographical conditions.

“Technical missions such as those performed by Fugro, require an aircraft that is capable of precision and reliability,” said Guy Joannes, President & CEO, ECL. “The performance-driven AS350 B3e is the most versatile helicopter in its range, providing an effective balance of power and safety.”

The AS350 B3e’s exceptional lifting capability, high endurance, extended range and fast cruise speed will assist Fugro apply the most advanced geophysical mapping technologies for a wide variety of applications.

Features of the AS350 B3e include the Safran Arriel 2D turboshaft engine with a new-generation digital FADEC (Full Authority Digital Engine Control) and an engine data recorder for condition monitoring. The integration of Eurocopter’s dual-screen Vehicle and Engine Multifunction Display (VEMD) in the cockpit allows pilots to check primary aircraft and engine parameters in one glance – thus reducing workload and enhancing safety. Eurocopter’s application of composite materials for the helicopter’s airframe, rotors and main rotor head gives the AS350 B3e the best protection against corrosion, thereby reducing maintenance costs.
