Whitney Helicopters Takes Delivery of Second EC120

Fort – Erie, Ontario, Canada Whitney Helicopters Ltd, a new oil and gas exploration service recently launched in Fort St. John, British Columbia, is now operational with two Eurocopter EC120 B’s, following the delivery of a second new EC120 B, the first was delivered early this year.  Whitney Helicopter’s also operates an AS350 B2 and will take delivery of a Eurocopter AS350 B3 in 2009.

“Whitney Helicopters Ltd chose to start its fleet of helicopters using the Eurocopter product line and more specifically the EC120 B for several reasons,” states, company Director, Conrad Nunweiler.   “As a new company serving the competitive markets in northern BC and Alberta, Whitney Helicopters needed the advantages the EC120 B provided, namely safety, speed, more fuel capacity and efficiency, as well as the latest technology available.  Compliance with the JAR 27 standard and superior safety features such as the crashworthy seats, fuel system and shrouded Fenestron, made our selection process very easy.”

The multi-mission Eurocopter EC120 B is ideally suited for operation in Canada’s oil and gas sector.  The helicopter carries four passengers and one pilot very comfortably in the extra-wide cabin with excellent visibility. The bearingless rotor head, all composite blades and Fenestron tail rotor make the EC120 B the quietest helicopter in its class at 6.6 dB below ICAO limits.  The new generation of Fenestron provides high ground clearance and the added safety for on ground and in flight operations.  The EC120 is powered by a Safran ARRIUS 2F engine which allows the EC120 B to travel at a fast cruise speed of 120 knots (223 kph).

“We are extremely pleased with Whitney Helicopters decision to operate Eurocopter products,” says Marie-Agnès Vevè, President and CEO of Eurocopter Canada Limited.    “We value and respect their vision to operate the latest in technology.”

Whitney Helicopters with over 60 years of Northern commercial transportation service provides flights in Northern British Columbia and Alberta, specializing in helicopter service to the oil and gas and forestry sectors.

Eurocopter Canada, which currently has 63% marketshare, is expanding in Canada with a view to continuing to build national markets for its line of helicopters. In addition to its recently expanded main facility in Fort Erie, Eurocopter Canada is officially opening a new logistics facility in Richmond, British Columbia and delivering the 500th helicopter in Canada later this year. In 2009 Eurocopter will celebrate their 25th anniversary in Canada.
